Staff recommended the approval of Catherine Dennis as the district's American Sign Language interpreter to serve as an independent contractor. The board moved, seconded, and approved the hiring during the meeting.
"We'd recommend the approval of Catherine Dennis to be the American, sign language interpreter," the staff member said when presenting the recommendation. Later in the work session staff noted that Dennis is expected to provide services from Aug. 12 to Oct. 16 and that she had completed required documents including liability insurance and background checks promptly.
Staff described the arrangement as an independent‑contractor engagement rather than an employee position; follow‑up will include placement details and scheduling.
