Santee receives State Facilities modernization grants for three schools totaling $2.8 million in state awards

The Santee School District reported that the Office of Public School Construction and the State Allocation Board awarded State Facilities Program Modernization grants for three school sites, with awards announced in Dec. 2023 and funds received in May–June 2024.
Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Dr. Marcia Hamilton presented the award amounts and required district contributions: Chet F. Harritt — State award $763,559.00, District contribution $509,039.33 (expenditures completed); Pepper Drive — State award $1,936,466.00, District contribution $1,290,977.33 (expenditures completed); Sycamore Canyon — State award $136,441.00, District contribution $90,960.67 (expenditures completed). The combined State awards total $2,836,466.00 and the District’s combined contribution is $1,890,977.33; Dr. Hamilton noted the funds must be used strictly for facility needs and that the District must file annual expenditure reports and audits until its contribution is met.
Dr. Hamilton characterized the application process as arduous and described OPSC’s documentation requirements and timelines. These modernization grants are funded approximately 60% by the State and 40% by the District.
