District health services report: nurses and school clinics delivered tens of thousands of interventions last year

The district health services director presented the 2025–26 annual health services report to the board, summarizing campus nursing activity, school‑based clinic visits and preventive services.
Staff said nurses provided 222,848 health services to students and 6,576 services to staff during the school year; 14,408 students had a documented medical condition or health‑related alert and approximately 69% of students required monitoring or supports. The district’s school‑based clinics reported 1,675 visits at Chico and Stevens clinics, 1,669 vaccine administrations and 250 vision clinic visits; staff said 227 pairs of glasses were prescribed — about 91% of vision‑clinic visitors.
The presenter, Jacqueline McEwan, noted partnerships with local clinics and the city to support dental outreach and urged parents to provide vaccine documentation or valid exemptions. She reported 17 medical exemptions and 297 nonmedical (religious or philosophical) exemptions across the district and said staff will supply school‑level exemption data on request.
Board members thanked health services and asked staff to continue expanding mental‑health partnerships and to provide school‑level immunization and exemption breakdowns.
