The Santee City Council adopted Ordinance 623 on second reading on Feb. 12, 2025, adding Chapter 7.19 to Title 7 of the Santee Municipal Code to prohibit trespass on private property and business premises. City Attorney Shawn Hagerty presented the ordinance language; Vice Mayor Rob McNelis moved approval and Councilmember Dustin Trotter seconded. The ordinance passed on a 5-0 vote.
The ordinance creates a municipal code chapter intended to strengthen local authority to address trespass on private property and businesses. Councilmembers asked questions during the second reading; the council adopted the ordinance as presented. Implementation, enforcement practices and any penalties referenced by staff will be handled through the city's code enforcement and police follow‑up procedures.
