During the first reading of revised Board Policies on political activities (BP 41119.25/4219.25/4319.25), candidate Tracie Thill asked whether the policy's restriction on the use of the district seal applied only to employees and/or candidates and requested the policy include explicit reference to social media. Superintendent Dr. Kristin Baranski responded that she received guidance from legal counsel indicating the seal is not allowed for campaign use and noted the policy language was from the California School Boards Association and the Election Code. The Board asked Administration to verify the Election Code language and consult legal counsel as needed before finalizing the policy language.
No change to policy language was made at the meeting; the item was under first reading and will return for further consideration following legal review.
