Santee SD expects steady enrollment; board says no planned teacher reductions despite class-size concerns

Superintendent Dr. Kristin Baranski told the board the district expects enrollment for 2024–25 to be similar to the prior year, reporting 378 transitional kindergarten students and 562 kindergarten students. She said current class-size ratios are approximately 22.8:1 in kindergarten through third grade and 29.8:1 in grades four through eight, and noted Administration will not recommend teacher reductions even if enrollment declines.
Board President Dustin Burns said teachers and parents had expressed concerns about class sizes potentially exceeding 40. Baranski responded that no class currently exceeds 40 students and that sites typically reorganize classes to reduce ratios when necessary.
