Santee School District reports elevated lead in two faucets; retesting shows levels returned to normal

Superintendent Dr. Kristin Baranski told the Board of Education that voluntary summer water testing identified slightly elevated lead levels in two classrooms and two water stations at two different sites. The District immediately took corrective actions and, upon retesting, the faucets and water stations returned to levels within the recommended range. Baranski said the District will notify those who may have been affected next week.
Baranski framed the testing as part of an ongoing voluntary program the District has conducted for several years. President Dustin Burns asked whether any classrooms would exceed 40 students in light of enrollment concerns; Baranski confirmed no class exceeded 40. The Board did not propose further immediate action at the meeting pending the notifications and documentation of corrective steps.
