Board adopts 2026–29 district calendars after survey shows mixed preferences
Summary
After reviewing a staff survey of 106 responses, the Stevenson-Carson board adopted district calendars for 2026–27, 2027–28 and 2028–29; most respondents wanted to retain the traditional Thanksgiving break and the winter-break scheduling question split roughly 50/50 for 2028–29.

Trustees voted to adopt the Stevenson-Carson calendars for 2026–27, 2027–28 and 2028–29 after reviewing survey results from parents and staff.
Superintendent Ingrid Colvard summarized survey feedback: 106 responses were returned, and a large majority of participants preferred keeping the usual Thanksgiving break (no school Wednesday through Friday). For the 2028–29 winter holiday, participants split about 50/50 on whether to keep the traditional two full weeks off or to shift the break to begin Thursday, Dec. 21 and resume Thursday, Jan. 4. Trustees discussed the placement of snow days at the end of the year and concerns that families plan vacations for those dates; trustees also noted the calendar committee’s interest in planning four-day weekends.
Lisa Birney moved to accept the district calendars; Judi King seconded and the motion carried.
