Human-resources staff presented a multi-part update covering recruitment, retention and employee wellness, and fielded board requests for retention metrics.
Sal Reynoso (speaker 28) said the district hired 124 certificated professionals over the past three years, with 72 bilingual hires. "In the past 3 years, we've hired a 124 new certificated professionals," he said, and noted that roughly 35% of hires over the period came from district graduates.
HR described retention and support measures including five dedicated orientation days, new-teacher support meetings, professional learning, instructional coaches, peer-observation release time and mentoring through a leadership-advancement program. HR also reported administrative staffing changes and that the department is implementing benefit-plan changes and compliance steps for Senate Bill 88, which has imposed additional vendor and training requirements.
Jose Perea (speaker 30), the director of wellness, outlined plans to expand staff wellness through wellness-center activities, partnership discounts with a local gym and wellness sessions offered during district training days. Board members asked HR for longer-term trend reports on retention, tenure and turnover to inform succession planning.
No formal board action was taken; HR agreed to follow up with requested retention-rate data.
