Maribel Vargas Mesa, recently introduced as director for classified human resources and speaking for family and community engagement programming, outlined services the district offers to parents and families, including a Family Resource Center, evening/weekend programming, parent-technology help and translation/interpretation services.
"We had about a 12% increase from 23–24 school year... we're getting more requests for interpretation and translations," Maribel said, and described targeted home visits (192 in the spring) intended to address chronic absenteeism and connect families with resources. She reported parent data-confirmation rates by school — Delta High about 35%, Righetti about 65%, Pioneer about 32% and Santa Maria High about 21% — and emphasized an 85% district target to avoid losing state funding tied to parent confirmations.
The presentation covered multilingual outreach (English, Spanish and Mixteco), family leadership programming and partnerships with Santa Maria Bonita to host joint parent conferences. Maribel said the Family Resource Center will continue to offer in-person and virtual supports and add additional event times to increase accessibility for working parents.
