Runway 16/34 maintenance underway; Powder River Construction low bidder at $3.15 million

Runway maintenance at Northeast Wyoming Regional Airport is under way with Powder River Construction, Inc. identified as the low bidder at $3,147,095 for the Runway 16/34 maintenance project, airport engineers told the board April 21.
Tim Wick of consulting firm Morrison & Maierle said the runway was scheduled for a shutdown from April 6 through 6:00 a.m. on May 21, 2026, to allow concrete placement, spall repairs and joint-seal replacement. He outlined a work sequence that includes runway grooving beginning May 7, temporary markings on May 11, and permanent markings between May 28 and June 2.
Wick described ongoing work this week on concrete placement and spall repairs and noted Powder River Construction was the low bidder for the contract. The preconstruction meeting took place March 9 and a notice to proceed was issued April 1.
The schedule and contractor selection were presented to the Airport Board and the county commissioners; no vote was required at the board meeting on April 21. The update reiterated safety and operational steps to minimize disruption during the closure period.
