The McKinney City Council approved a specific-use permit for a drive-through restaurant at 8360 West University Drive during the April 7 meeting after Planning Director Lucas Raley and applicant representatives described site conditions and screening.
Riley (Lucas Raley) told the council the speaker box tied to the drive-through is "165 feet approximately, from the residential property line" and that two office buildings stand between the speaker box and the adjacent single-family home, effectively providing screening. Planning and Zoning recommended unanimous approval and staff echoed that recommendation. Applicant representative Alex Trimple, the civil engineer for the project, said a restaurant tenant is expected but not yet finalized.
Councilman Cloutier moved to close the public hearing and approve the SUP per staff recommendation; the motion passed 7–0. Council and staff noted the site sits north of US 380 and adjacent to a new Whole Foods development, and that future right-of-way changes for roadway widening were considered in staff’s recommendation.
