Brandon Kriesch presented three recent cost estimates to improve the driveway at 540 W. Lincoln Highway to make it vehicle-passable and to allow a safer student crossing by rerouting traffic. The options and figures reviewed were: asphalt millings — $17,270 for the drive, plus $7,985 for the east side (total $25,255); chip seal — $38,028 for the drive, plus $16,808 for the east side (total $54,836); and asphalt paving — $55,700 for the drive, plus $23,800 for the east side (total $79,500).
After reviewing the estimates and noting uncertainty about the property’s future use, the committee agreed asphalt millings appear to be the most practical option for now because it creates a durable surface while avoiding a larger capital investment that could be undermined by future excavation. The district will reach out to the owners of 530 W. Lincoln Highway about the small portion of the driveway they own and determine next steps.
