Well pump failure disrupts water supply at Hinckley-Big Rock middle school; inspection set for Nov. 4

Zane Holland, a district staff member, told the Building, Grounds & Transportation committee that a booster pump serving the Hinckley-Big Rock Middle School failed, preventing water from the storage tank from being pumped into the building. "The middle school’s well pumps water into a storage tank, which is then supplied to the building by a booster pump," Holland said, and contractors have temporarily rerouted the system so water now flows directly from the main pump into the building.

Holland said pressure levels have remained stable since the temporary reroute. The committee was told that Bill Weirich of Weirich Well Drilling will perform a full inspection of the well, tanks and pump on Tuesday, Nov. 4 while students and staff are not in the building. The inspection will include a written report and recommendations, including whether a replacement booster pump is required. No cost estimate for repairs was provided at the meeting.
