Council discusses zoning exceptions to allow riding stables and targeted grazing

City staff outlined proposed edits to city code to create exceptions that would allow riding stables and limited targeted grazing in certain zones, and said the planning commission reviewed the draft and scheduled a public hearing for Sept. 1.
Under the draft language presented by staff, "letter f" would permit a riding stable or academy provided no structure housing horses is located closer than 500 feet to a residential district boundary and a limit of two horses per acre would apply. "Letter g" would allow temporary targeted grazing by commercial operators — for instance goats using portable battery-powered electric fencing during scheduled service periods. Staff noted the attorney has the draft and will advise on final wording before the council considers formal action. "If they're not, then they'll come back, with whatever changes you might want at the next meeting," staff said.
