City to hire consultant for Park System Heritage Study after DCNR grant approval

Staff told the commission the City Park System Heritage Study — funded by a DCNR grant — will follow the city’s comprehensive parks and open‑space plan and will explore park origins, naming history and significance across the city.
"This was funding that was given, to us by, DCNR, which is going to look very similar to what creating an MPDF would look like," Matthew Falcone said, explaining that staff budgeted in anticipation of the grant and will send the project to council to expend funds and issue an RFP.
Staff said DCNR and PHMC have expressed enthusiasm for the project; the study will serve as an early implementation item of the comprehensive parks plan and support future preservation and planning work.
