Neighbors press commission for shade, water‑wise redesign and angled parking near Vista Del Monte

During the public comment period Paul Henriksen, representing the Upper West Side Neighborhood Organization, asked the commission to consider a conceptual neighborhood design for the area around Victoria Park and Vista Del Monte Elementary that prioritizes water conservation, shade and low maintenance. Henriksen said the neighborhood produced a visual concept and shared it with staff "to give the vision" for making the space more functional for students and residents.

Another resident, Robert Heindaugth, urged the commission to consider a pop‑up dog park and changes to parking on Mira Lehi. "Diagonal parking is would give you more spaces. It's a safer way to get in and out of your car," he said, adding the change would protect drivers, passengers and nearby children. He also noted that Victoria Park is the only major park in the city without a formal parking lot and urged staff and commissioners to examine options.

Staff accepted printed materials and contact information from the speakers and confirmed it will review the linked conceptual visuals and follow up. The comments were taken under the agenda’s public comment rules; no action on the proposals was taken at the meeting.
