Overlook Park update: about $30,000 remains from Idaho Power grant; P&Z requires engineer sign-off

Bill Bridges and other park representatives updated the Jerome County Board of Commissioners on the Overlook Park project on May 12. Bridges said the annual park cleanup day is scheduled for the coming Saturday and that an America 250 celebration and ribbon cutting for the overlook is set for July 8. "After the expenses of the overlook project and paying for concrete the park will still have approximately $30,000 left over from their Idaho Power grant," the minutes state; Bridges also said he is getting quotes for fencing around the canyon rim.
Bridges told the board he submitted a written response to Planning & Zoning after receiving an email that raised additional requirements. Sharde McMillan said the application remains incomplete because the building type and planned use trigger International Building Code requirements and that P&Z needs approval from a design professional such as an engineer or architect, as well as items like a concrete pad or tie-downs and concrete steps to comply with code. Vice Chairman Charles Howell suggested the park seek an engineer willing to donate time to prepare the required plans and said the county could consider covering costs if no pro bono help is available, subject to approval at a future meeting.
