Seminole County presents $1.095 billion tentative FY2024–25 budget; public hearing scheduled

Seminole County staff presented a balanced tentative FY2024–25 countywide budget of $1,095,097,799 during the Sept. 11 public hearing.
Management and Budget Director Timothy Jechs told the board the tentative budget reflects $43.4 million in first-hearing adjustments, including $28 million in newly identified grant agreements, $15 million in interfund transfers, and a $101,000 reduction to the supervisor of elections transfer. Jechs said public safety, physical environment and transportation account for roughly 74% of countywide expenditures. He also noted the county’s water, sewer and solid-waste enterprise funds are fiscally sound with capital allocations.
Jechs flagged a separate $4.0 million sheriff request to increase the sheriff’s certified transfer for deputy pay; the request was not added to the tentative total and will be considered as a potential second-hearing adjustment. Staff said adding the $4 million would reduce general fund reserves from $56.5 million to $52.5 million (approximately two months of revenues). Commissioner Costain moved to adopt the tentative budget as adjusted, and the board carried the motion unanimously; the second public hearing is scheduled for Sept. 24, 2024.
