The Seminole County Board of County Commissioners unanimously voted Sept. 11 to adopt the tentative FY2024–25 millage rates presented at the first public hearing.
Management and Budget Director Timothy Jechs read the rates into the record, listing a countywide general millage of 4.8751 mills, a fire rescue MSTU millage of 2.7649 mills, and an unincorporated MSTU millage of 0.1107 mills; the tentative aggregate millage for all BCC taxing districts was listed as 6.8803 mills. Jechs said each tentative rate is higher than the corresponding rollback rate by single-digit percentages, and that the FY'25 tentative rates match those approved in July and mailed in the notice of proposed property taxes.
Commissioner Dillard moved to adopt the tentative millage rates “as presented here tonight,” the motion was seconded, and the board carried it unanimously. The hearing record includes the management office’s explanation that the rollback rate is the rate which, applied to the tax base excluding new construction, would produce the same revenue as the prior year.
The vote was procedural toward setting a maximum tax rate for the budget process; final millage and budget adoption are scheduled for the second public hearing on Sept. 24, 2024.
