Council approves two rezonings; 525 Main Street passes with one dissent

The Trussville City Council approved two rezoning ordinances after public hearing and suspending the rules for immediate consideration. The council voted to rezone 333 Main Street to QC2 (qualified general commercial) to correct a prior reporting/annexation discrepancy. Councilors said the change aligns the parcel’s zoning with surrounding properties.
The council also approved rezoning the city-owned property at 525 Main Street to C2 (general commercial). During discussion, Councilor Jackson and staff outlined stipulations attached to QC2 rezonings — including ALDOT permitting and developer-required traffic improvements such as left-turn lanes on Watterson Parkway — and noted certain uses would be prohibited (for example, animal hospitals with enclosed kennels and car washes in that QC2 area per stipulations). The 525 Main Street measure passed with one no recorded from Councilor Miller.
Councilors said some items related to overlay language and permitted home-occupation exceptions will be considered at first reading in a future meeting to allow staff to reconcile overlay boundaries and table details where unanimous consent was not reached.
