Police report: call totals, equipment updates and proposed pay changes starting May 1

Chief W. Copp briefed trustees on department activity and operations. From Jan. 15 to the meeting date the department handled 49 calls, including 41 traffic stops that produced 24 citations and three warnings; the McHenry County Sheriff Office assisted on eight calls. The chief said three parking tickets were issued during snow events.
Copp said the e-ticket printer has been installed in Squad 246 and Squad 346 will be completed later; the department is awaiting invoices for the equipment. He reported the NEMRT state-mandated training fee was waived (the fee would have been $400 per officer) and said firearms qualification will be coordinated with Prairie Grove to keep costs down (normally $16 per officer). Copp circulated a proposed staffing-hours calendar and recommended a pay restructure to reduce headcount while increasing hourly rates: Chief $28, Sergeant $27 and Patrol $25, proposed to start May 1, 2025 if the board approves. Copp also reminded residents to use the non-emergency line (815-385-2828) for non-urgent calls.
No board vote on staffing or compensation occurred at the meeting; trustees received the updates and discussed implementation details in general terms.
