Council held the first of two public hearings on a development agreement for redevelopment of the News Press site at the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Fowler Street (Ward 4). City manager Marty Lawing summarized prior outreach by the developer and told council staff could provide a brief PowerPoint; the council declined further presentation and opened the hearing to the public.
No members of the public spoke on the item during the hearing and council moved the agreement forward, setting March 3 as the date for the second hearing where a formal vote is expected. Staff noted this is the first of two hearings required under local code and that the project had been shared previously in workshop settings.
