The Village of Holiday Hills trustees accepted the resignation of Chief Jeff Caldwell, effective Dec. 31, 2024, and immediately appointed Commander Billy Copp as interim police chief with a pay rate of $27.50 per hour.
Trustees voted unanimously to accept Caldwell’s resignation and to promote Copp. According to the minutes, Chief Caldwell will remain through Dec. 31 to assist with the transition but will not act as chief during that period. "Chief Caldwell will assist Commander Copp in the transition," the record states.
The board also approved hiring one additional part‑time officer after discussing pending resignations within the department. A separate motion to hire candidate William Bacon was deferred so trustees could meet and interview him at the December meeting during an executive session. Trustee Kamil Pawlak moved to approve hiring an additional part-time officer; Trustee Brian Agrella seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
The personnel actions follow the police-department report that noted 29 calls between Oct. 17 and Nov. 13 and 189 calls year‑to‑date. Trustees said the changes aim to maintain coverage as staffing levels shift.
