The New Garden Township Board of Supervisors voted to authorize township officials to negotiate the necessary intergovernmental cooperation agreement and related legal documents to consider Oxford Borough joining the Southern Chester County Regional Police Department. The motion, moved by a supervisor and seconded by another, passed by a voice vote with no opposition.
Chair opened the agenda item by reading the motion, which authorizes the vice chair, the township manager and the solicitor to negotiate on behalf of the township. Township manager Chris Hyamsen framed the vote as a procedural next step that allows staff and legal counsel to pursue detailed negotiations and timelines; he described the authorization as the board directing staff "to continue on in this process" toward an implementation target and further bargaining sessions. The board then took the vote and adjourned following routine closing business.
