Hinckley-Big Rock board accepts clean FY25 audit, earns top ISBE rating

The Hinckley-Big Rock Community Unit School District #429 Board of Education on Sept. 17 approved the district's FY25 audit after Andrea Meyer of Newkirk & Associates reported a "clean" audit with no material weaknesses or deficiencies.
Meyer told trustees the district received a financial profile rating of "recognition" from the Illinois State Board of Education and that the district's FY25 financial score was 3.65 out of 4.0. "There were no areas for concern, no material weaknesses or deficiencies," Meyer said, and she recommended that the district institute a signed credit-card policy for all cardholders.
Superintendent Dr. Jessica Sonntag confirmed the district has instituted a credit-card policy following the audit review. The board voted 6-0 to approve the audit; the motion was made by Darrin Gengler and seconded by Jack Haines.
The vote concludes the district's annual financial review and leaves trustees positioned to proceed with the FY26 budget and other financial actions approved later in the meeting.
