Parish education and finance leaders told the committee they are preparing a public-information campaign ahead of a May 30 millage renewal that staff said represents about 36% of the parish's overall revenues. "About 36% of our overall revenues," the presenter said when showing the pie chart that isolates amounts up for renewal.
Staff proposed a timeline: a public announcement in January, a board resolution in February to formally call the election, the May 30 election date, and a June board action to certify results and record vote totals. Bond counsel advised waiting until after the April ballot to avoid confusing voters about simultaneous measures.
Communications staff (Regina) said she has drafted a timeline and identified themes — career & technical education, pre-K expansion and facilities investments — and recommended more frequent outreach than the current quarterly newsletter, suggesting monthly highlights and targeted stakeholder events to put the renewal "on the front of people's brains." Committee members suggested outreach through civic and business groups, and staff agreed to present a refined messaging calendar at future meetings.
