The Board of County Commissioners approved an ordinance Dec. 10 to amend county code and create a courts operation fund to account for revenues and expenditures tied to an on-site drug-testing laboratory operated for the 18th Judicial Circuit at the Criminal Justice Center. Lori Bailey Brown told commissioners the lab began limited services in 2022 and expanded in 2023 through COSAP grant funding; the ordinance allows the courts to collect fees and house the revenues in a separate fund.
"Grant funding will continue to support the lab functions through 2025, and staff will continue to maximize grant opportunities for the drug lab," Brown said. The board approved the ordinance unanimously and the courts will issue an administrative order to collect fees upon implementation.
