Elaine Gore, introduced to provide the Council on Aging update, told the Horry County administration committee that the program’s primary goal is keeping seniors living at home with dignity and independence. She said the program served 28,134 meals at its 11 senior centers and 31,214 home‑delivered meals since July, provided about 3,999 hours of homemaker services, ran three transportation vans covering 1,168 door‑to‑door appointments, and offered 494 units of health‑promotion programming.
"Our goal was to keep people at home and out of those places," Gore said, comparing the cost of their services—about "$58 a week, maybe $200 a month"—with institutional care costs she cited as "between $4,000 and $9,000 a month." She told the committee the program fills an important gap by enabling family caregivers to work while ensuring seniors receive meals, activities and transportation.
Gore thanked county staff and elected officials for support and said the program is exploring expanded afternoon activities in partnership with Horry County Libraries and Parks and Recreation to reach seniors across the county. No formal action was taken; the committee heard the report and thanked Gore for the update.
