District staff say Title II funds arrived; district shifts to STAR testing and outlines gifted reporting changes

District curriculum leadership updated the board on training and assessment decisions. The curriculum lead said the district used Title II funds to book Kagan cooperative-learning training and eight follow-up coaching sessions, noting, "that grant is already submitted for Title II" and the district moved quickly to purchase services so training could proceed.
On assessment, administrators discussed replacing NWEA MAP with Renaissance STAR for local benchmarking and progress monitoring. The curriculum lead stated, "STAR took the place of MAP for us," and explained STAR provides reporting, progress monitoring and a shorter assessment for use with intervention tools. Board members asked about how state changes to cut scores or reporting categories (including gifted reporting) would affect local measures; the district noted a new state requirement to upload data on accelerated/gifted students and described options for districts that do not have a local gifted test (including using IAR results).
Officials emphasized classroom formative assessments remain the most meaningful measure for teachers when triangulating results across tools.
