Ottawa County commissioners heard a proposal Oct. 13 to add a longevity pay benefit but took no formal action.
County Clerk Tammi Cox presented a policy that would pay employees $0.05 per hour for every year of service after one year of employment, capped at 20 years; payments would be made once per fiscal year in the November paycheck. Cox said the policy would "allow Ottawa County to add an additional benefit for employment." After discussion Commissioner Carla Grund recommended no action at this time and asked staff to prepare incremental increases tied to the wage study included in the proposed 2026 budget for the commission to review.
Why it matters: Longevity pay would represent a recurring personnel cost and affect payroll budgeting if adopted. Commissioners asked for wage-study-based increment information before taking action.
