Ottawa County commissioners voted unanimously Oct. 13 to solicit financing bids to buy three dump trucks after reviewing interest rates offered by two banks.
Public Works Director Chris Smith told the board he received bids for financing four trucks from Bennington State Bank (3 years — 4.839%; 4 years — 4.779%; 5 years — 4.739%) and Citizens State Bank (3 years — 5.135%; 4 years — 5.232%; 5 years — 5.330%). Commissioner Carla Grund said she preferred purchasing one truck outright and financing only three. The commission approved a motion "to go out for bid to finance three trucks for 3-, 4- and 5-year terms." The motion was moved by Commissioner Grund, seconded by Commissioner Duane Morris, and passed 3-0.
Why it matters: Financing terms will affect the county's capital budget and annual debt service for equipment used on county-maintained roads. The board's decision begins a formal solicitation process; the commission will later consider specific loan offers and payment schedules before approving any contract.
