The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 to approve a proclamation declaring October 2025 Domestic Violence Awareness Month after a presentation by Tanya Paul, Outreach Specialist for the Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas (DVACK).
Paul cited national and Kansas statistics, noting that domestic-violence-related homicides comprised a notable share of homicides and that DVACK served 862 victims across 10 counties in recent reporting. "In declaring this month of October as \"Domestic Violence Awareness Month\" we encourage all citizens to know the fact about domestic violence, to familiarize themselves with resources, to recognize subtle signs of control tactics, to act as safe support systems, to speak up against perpetrators of violence and any messages that inadvertently condone domestic violence," Paul said during her presentation.
Commissioners approved the proclamation with no recorded dissent and encouraged residents to learn about resources and support local services.
