Gordon Phelps, CEO of the Biker Mining Museum, asked the Lawrence County Commission for about $8,500 to pay Interstate Engineering for design work to stabilize a portion of an adjacent two-level parking structure that supports the museum's entrance.
"We've got a request as you see in the letter for about $8,500 to pay interstate engineering for engineering plan to help us with, what's going on with our parking structure," Gordon Phelps said, describing concerns about foundation deterioration and the museum's emergency exits that open onto the structure. Commissioners discussed funding sources, including contingency funds and mine-severance interest, but concluded more information was needed and deferred the item to the July 14 agenda so a contingency transfer or other funding mechanism can be considered.
County staff explained the options and noted the museum could invoice the county after approval; commissioners asked for additional detail on timing and funding before making a transfer or authorization.
