The Wolfeboro Budget Committee voted to recommend the town's proposed 2026 operating budget, totaling $35,913,502, after a public presentation and line-by-line review.
Chair (speaker 2) read the article language and noted the default budget—used if the warrant article fails—would be $34,073,480; the operating budget was presented with an estimated tax-rate impact of $3.14 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. "Shall the town raise and appropriate as an operating budget... totaling $35,913,502," the warrant language read as the committee reviewed revenue offsets including motor vehicle registration, building permits, cable franchise fees and other receipts totaling $5,313,750.
Committee members and residents pressed presenters for clearer displays showing 'budgeted, expended and proposed' figures; the town manager and department liaisons explained drivers such as employee contracts, rising health insurance assessments and several elections scheduled in 2026. After discussion the committee moved to recommend Article 5; a roll-call vote recorded nine members in favor and one against (9–1). The committee said the recommended package will be presented at the deliberative session and voters will decide at the March 10 town meeting.
