Applicant urges council to protect multimodal ground-transport hub, flags TIFIA as financing option

Evan, one of two applicants for the Pitkin County Airport Advisory Board, framed his application around preserving robust multimodal ground transportation at the Aspen–Pitkin County commercial air terminal. Evan told the council he identified TIFIA (Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act) as a financing source that had been omitted by the county's financial advisors and that, for eligible projects, "you can finance over a 35 year term at low interest rates, up to 49% of defined eligible project costs." He warned that inflation and uncertainty around federal infrastructure funding could increase pressure to shrink the hub, and said an ex officio board member must be prepared to advocate vigorously even without a vote.
