Council member Schaefer introduced a staff directive asking Legislative Research & Oversight (LRO) to review and report back on how comparable cities structure their legislative budget processes to inform Minneapolis’s upcoming budget cycle.
Andrew Hawkins, director of Legislative Research & Oversight, told the committee LRO will identify examples and tools that could benefit the council and deliver information in advance of budget committee work tied to the mayor’s August 24 budget delivery. "We wanted to make sure that we are being timely, to get this information to council for consideration in advance of that timeline," Hawkins said.
The committee voted to forward and approve the staff directive for LRO to proceed; Hawkins noted the work will include comparisons and recommended practices that could be used during the council’s legislative budget phase.
