Commission approves utility right-of-way permits for water line and wellfield projects, and undergrounding by Sioux Valley Energy

Brookings Municipal Utilities will install an 8-inch water line after August 1 with anticipated 1–2 day lane closures; Joint Wellfield Inc. will directional-bore a 16-inch cased PVC water line for Brookings Dual Rural Water; Sioux Valley Energy will convert overhead to underground along County Road 5. All permits were approved.
Evan Henningsen of Brookings Municipal Utilities described a proposed 8-inch water main to the wastewater plant and said work will start after August 1 with one-lane temporary closures expected for 1–2 days using flaggers.
"The work for this project won't begin until after August 1...We're expecting to do 1 to 2 days, to close that lane. Flaggers is our plan," Evan said. The commission approved Agreement 26-28 to permit occupancy of the right-of-way.
Commissioners also approved two related permits for Joint Wellfield Inc. (directional boring of a 16-inch cased PVC water line to serve Brookings Dual Rural Water near Bruce) and for Sioux Valley Energy to move overhead lines underground along County Road 5 south of Olga. Highway staff noted the joint wellfield line will be directional-bored and that Brookings Dual Rural Water will own the installed infrastructure.
