Forest Charter director requests district approval for Auburn learning center ahead of charter renewal

Peter, executive director of Forest Charter School, asked the Auburn Unified School District board for permission to continue operating a learning center in Auburn in connection with his school's upcoming charter renewal.
Peter described the Auburn learning center as a roughly 2,000-square-foot professional space used for teacher-family meetings, tutoring and special-education resources; he said the site is not used for regular classroom instruction and noted the legal requirement that non-classroom-based charter schools secure district permission for off-site learning centers under Ed. Code provisions (he cited Ed. Code 7605). Peter said Forest Charter has served the Auburn area since 2002 and currently has about 13 students who are residents of Auburn Unified attending the learning center.
A trustee asked for comparative I-Ready results and additional data the district could review; Peter said he could provide assessment and growth data. Superintendent Meyer told the board the request would be brought back as an action item for June, and staff will prepare the information trustees requested.
The board did not act immediately; staff said they will place the learning-center item on the June agenda for formal consideration.
