Midtown streetscape plan calls for shared‑use path, trees, lighting and durable furnishings

City staff and AIM consultant Nicole Setzer reviewed Phase 1 streetscape plans for Midtown, including a 60‑foot Jackson Street right‑of‑way cross section that shows sidewalks, a 10‑foot shared‑use path separated from travel lanes, street trees and furnishings. "Midtown is a mixture of probably 8 or so different width right of ways," Setzer told council as she explained lane widths, shared‑use paths and furniture selection.
Council members questioned bench styles (backless vs. backed benches), lighting spacing and the need to design poles to accommodate cameras and conduit. Staff emphasized selecting durable, low‑maintenance furnishings (recycled‑plastic slats) and running conduit for future fiber and camera needs. Design work will include photometric studies to set spacing and fixture choices before construction of an initial phase scheduled for this year.
