Daniel Youngs, Executive Director of the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA), presented the authority's 2025 accomplishments and 2026 initiatives. Key 2025 accomplishments listed were: completion of the first phase of the Waste Characterization Study, public officials and hauler meetings, completion of the final phase of the FFLF vertical expansion, an in-county landfill site evaluation, securing a new 25-year agreement for landfill gas-to-energy generation at FFLF, achieving an AAA rating from S&P Global Ratings, funding $17.5 million in capital investment, and managing 960,618 tons of waste.
Youngs outlined 2026 initiatives including completing the next phase of the waste characterization study, completing a rail feasibility study, pursuing future landfill capacity, exploring alternative waste processing and diversion technologies, continuing long-term integrated system planning for the Northeast Lancaster Transfer Campus, enhancing public education and communication, expanding risk management, strengthening long-term financial planning, and making organizational culture improvements.
