Choose Ottawa County representatives told the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 17 that the nonprofit has applied for $1,837,847 in grants and has been awarded $827,816 so far, with a possibility of surpassing $1 million by the end of the year.
"We have applied for $1,837,847.00 worth of grants and have been awarded $827,816.00," Katie Vanderhoff said while reviewing recent awards and pending applications. Vanderhoff outlined a planned video project to promote Ottawa County to visitors, and colleague Owen Kindall described steps to improve the county's social‑media presence to support business recruitment and tourism. Vanderhoff also noted existing biking infrastructure and promotional routes to attract cyclists.
Commissioner Carla Grund asked about state or federal biking grants and whether the county could expand trail opportunities as an economic driver; Vanderhoff responded that "we currently have ten Travel Gravel routes throughout the county" and described ongoing marketing work to support trail users and related lodging and retail services. The commissioners thanked Choose Ottawa County for the presentation and its grant‑finding efforts.
