Council approves $90,000 appropriation to rebuild 2005 Caterpillar telehandler

Public Works Director Jackie Cordero told council the city's telehandler requires new brakes and chains and that a certified rebuild is the most cost-effective option.
"If we were to go buy a new one, it would be 250,000," Cordero said, then explained an assessed rebuild price of about $70,000 that she said could extend the unit's useful life another 10–15 years. She recommended a Quinn Cat certified rebuild and requested authorization to appropriate up to $90,000 to cover the rebuild, rental equipment and barge transport costs.
Council approved a motion to execute the certified rebuild by Quinn Cat, make a sole-source procurement finding for the certified rebuild program and amend the FY25–26 capital budget to include $90,000 for the refurbishment. Staff said the vendor estimated a three-month turnaround and will arrange rentals during the rebuild.
