Victor Dotres, chair of the Public Art Committee, presented the Public Art Annual Plan for 2024–25 and highlighted three major projects: restoration of the Rachel at the Well sculpture, the Buck Yards mural project and a 57‑mural outdoor walkable museum between Henry Street and the Luminary Hotel.
Dotres credited broad collaboration — including the Community Redevelopment Agency, Fort Myers Mural Society, Lee County Black History Society and local historians — and said the projects depend on volunteer and institutional partnerships. He highlighted cultural and economic impacts, noting the art center and the committee’s programming support local jobs and downtown commerce.
Dotres said the Rachel sculpture had endured many storms and that “when it came to bringing Rachel back to life” it took many city departments and community partners to execute the restoration. Council members thanked the committee and asked about openings on the committee; Dotres said application information is on the city website and that three spots were open.
The presentation included attendance and economic‑impact figures for the arts sector and an invitation for council and residents to attend events and programs.
