The Ellis County Commission authorized purchase order #8008 on July 7 for a modernized video and access control system at the county jail, selecting Electronic Contracting Company (ECC) after a competitive RFP process. ECC’s revised Quote No. 83983 reduced the project cost to $359,112.49; an optional Years 2–5 Care Plan would add $25,054.41 per year.
Sheriff Scott Braun described the system as central to staff safety and said the equipment should provide an expected service life of approximately 13–15 years. "This is the heart of the system," Braun said, arguing the replacement reduces the need for additional staffing in failure scenarios. The motion to approve the PO carried by voice vote of three to zero.
