Forest Administrator Eric Peterson delivered a detailed operations update on June 10, reporting year-to-date timber-sale receipts of $740,918.46 compared with $662,151.28 at the same point in 2025, an increase of $78,760.18 (about 11.9%). He said seven logging crews are working on county forest lands and nine sales are active in stages such as hauling and closeouts; dry weather aided crews getting started but poor markets continue to delay pulpwood shipments.
Peterson said staff are preparing for an FSC/SFI certification audit in August and that dry weather has been damaging recent red pine plantings. He also provided spring-sale statistics: 17 sales were offered with 12 sold, covering 1,157 acres and estimated at 518 MBF of sawtimber and 23,750 cords of pulpwood, with an estimated sale value of $656,654.54. Peterson noted campground occupancy was high for Memorial Day weekend and that county staff are coordinating Saxon Harbor permit discussions with WDNR Waterways, FEMA and WEM.
