The Niles City Council voted to change the Commons Area boundaries within the DDA Social District and approved Iron Shoe Distilling, LLC to add a Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) Social District License to its current MLCC license. Councilmember Nelson moved the boundary change; Councilmember Bertschy moved the Iron Shoe Distilling approval; both actions passed unanimously.
DDA Director Lisa Croteau thanked those who attended the grand opening of the NODE and noted that agenda items 16 and 17 would add Iron Shoe Distilling to the social district. Mayor Nick Shelton reflected that during his eight years as mayor no prior issue generated as much contention as an outdoor downtown space, and he praised staff and the community for persisting with downtown vitalization.
