County Attorney J. Wilkinson updated the Human Resource Committee on the Assigned Counsel Program, saying the office is reviewing a proposed partnership agreement with Genesee and Orleans counties and that a formal proposal should be available in the next few months. Wilkinson characterized the work as ongoing review rather than a finalized plan.
Wilkinson also reported the county has “already spent budget of $300K” on defense-related services and said he met with the Public Defender and the County Administrator to examine reasons for the higher-than-expected spending. No motion was recorded; the update was informational and committee members were advised that a proposal will follow.
