Commissioners approve $29,344.15 Hazelton runway closeout certification; FAA runway grant options discussed

Kent Atkin of JUB briefed the board on FAA runway extension grant opportunities for which applications are due in December; he estimated eligible grants at $4–6 million with a 90% federal / 10% local match and said the state may be able to cover half of the local match, potentially reducing the county’s share to about 5% of total cost. He said grants would cover costs including land acquisition and runway extension and that the timeline could be a couple of years out, allowing the county time to plan for matching funds.
Atkin also reported that the Hazelton taxiway grant closeout yielded approximately $29,344.15 in remaining funds. Commissioner Crouch moved to sign the Idaho Transportation Department closeout certification allocating $29,344.15 for preservation of the Hazelton runway; Commissioner Howell seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
