The Hillsboro Community Unit School District #3 Board of Education voted Nov. 12 to add a teaching assistant position at Hillsboro Junior High to respond to rising special-education enrollment. Principal VanGiesen told the board the school has experienced an influx of special-education students and that additional support was needed; the board approved the addition by a 7-0 roll call vote after a motion from Nathan Kirby and a second from John Lentz.
The new teaching assistant position will be added to the junior-high staffing roster; the minutes state the board approved the hire and later approved the employment of Taylor Meyers to fill a teaching assistant role. The board did not specify a start date in the minutes.
